The last bill Congressman John Duncan (TN) introduced in the House before his retirement from the House of Representatives was H.R. 6879. The bill was introduced on September 25, 2018. The chief concepts of the bill are to create a Board of Governors consisting of the National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), U.S. Navy, U.S Coast Guard, Federal Aviation Administration and the International Midway Memorial Foundation (IMMF) to oversee the operations of the Midway Islands. The sole jurisdiction by the USFWS over Midway shall be placed in the administrative hands of the Governing Board. The second critical concept in the bill is that the private sector shall operate and maintain the infrastructure and manage the public visitation program on a for profit basis and at no cost to the taxpayer.
If the bill is not passed this year, the plan is to have it reintroduced by a leading member of the House Natural Resources Committee. Next year, the IMMF will also seek the assistance of former Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (TN), now elected to the Senate, in introducing the bill in that body of Congress.
The latest news on the Glenn Miller Project is that on December 19, we are interviewing Tom Tengerdy for the position of fund raising and publicity manager. He presently is engaged in the sale of high end automobile. The meeting went very well and the IMMF was impressed with his presentation. To be continued.
The article in the Sarasota Herald Tribune about our project to discover the remains of Major Glenn Miller’s aircraft in the English Chanel has been delayed until January 2019.
In January 2019, we are expecting a response from a major donor foundation to our request for a grant donation to help us sponsor this venture. Stay Tuned!!
The writing of my second book entitled Pearl Harbor Revisited is nearing completion. It takes the reader from the early days of Japan’s “Golden Age” through the very early days of World War II in the Pacific. It is the prequel to my first book Victory at Midway: The Battle That Changed the Course of World War II. The book’s main focus will be on whether the United States Government had foreknowledge of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Dr. William Dudley, former Director of the Naval Historical Center will again be writing the foreword to the book and has collaborated in doing research for the book. Don’t touch that dial!!
I am trying to contact the producers of the new Hollywood movie about the Battle of Midway to see if they are interested in having me as a consultant. The movie is presently under production.
To be continued….
Chris and I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
